Fight Acne with Benzoyl Peroxide

There are many sorts of treatment available for acne. Even if we leave aside those that rely solely on anecdotal evidence and whose actual effectiveness is doubtful, you still have a variety of remedies that you can find in a drug store. Among them, benzoyl peroxide is generally regarded as one of the most powerful solutions, especially if acne does not occur in very serious forms.

Benzoyl peroxide is actually an ingredient in many different creams, lotions, bars and gels. No prescription is needed for their purpose, and the wide variety of solutions available makes it possible to choose one that best matches your skin type. Exfoliating creams can be good for clearing dead epidermal cells, while gels are most effective if you have an oily skin.

Deadly to bacteria, benzoyl peroxide belongs to the classs of antiseptic oxidants. Benzoyl peroxide is particularly effective in the case of yeast infections and acne (due to the fact that it causes the fluids inside the pimples to dry rapidly). Benzoyl peroxide is very unlikely to cause any scars and it leaves your skin protected against other infections as well. Whats more, benzoyl peroxide will stay just as effective even in long-term use without the risk of bacteria becoming resistant to it.

Cosmetics should be used cautiously during the treatment with benzoyl peroxide and too much exposure to sunlight should be avoided. Also, moisturizers are recommended for keeping your skin smooth and hydrated. Be careful not to scrub your skin if you use the antiseptic in the form of soap, and remember to wash your face at least two-three times a day.

Side effects are negligible, if any. The skin may become slightly dry, red or flaked. As long as these are not serious, creams and solutions should be enough to counterbalance them. If they dont disappear, however, or if they are disturbing, you should see a doctor.

Strong as it may be, benzoyl peroxide is not effective from the first use. It will usually take up to six weeks before you can see any results. If you keep using benzoyl peroxide, your face will eventually be free from acne. For best results, you should apply the benzoyl peroxide treatment to all areas of the body where acne is likely to occur.

The bactericide is counterindicated for children and preteens. In their case, treatment administration should only be done with the doctors consent and under the doctors supervision.
